WHAT IS AICA CANADA INC ?

AICA CANADA INC
is the Canadian section of the International Association of Art Critics (AICA) based in Paris, France. AICA CANADA INC , currently headquartered in Toronto, has an average of 50 members: distinguished critics, curators and scholars around the country. Current online address: http://www.artfocus.com/aicacanada.com/index.html
For the record, Canada was the first AICA member with a website ( founded in l997).

AICA International was founded in l948/49 in order to revive the critical discourse that had suffered during World War 11. AICA was recognized as a "non-government organization"(NGO)by UNESCO in l951. At present there are 72 member nations representing more than 4,000 art critics worldwide.

AICA CANADA INC is intent on broadening communication about the visual arts, promoting the values of art criticism as a discipline and acting on behalf of the physical and moral defense of works of art. To this end, AICA CANADA INC will initiate
Annual Awards for the Best Art Review & Best Artbook in Canada.

AICA members are issued a membership card updated with a yearly stamp, which is recognized for entrance to museums and art events around the world. They are informed of relevant international members activities in the bi-yearly AICA Newsletter and are invited to the Annual AICA International Congress, held in a different nation each year.

AICA CANADA INC membership fees are $65 CND per year which includes $25 USD to AICA International.

In order to become an AICA member in Canada , critics must have been writing or curating in the field of contemporary art at a high level on a continuous basis for at least three years.
